The Needs We Tackle

  • People with Parkinson’s (PwP) are significantly less active than peers, even before COVID-19.
  • Pandemic-related isolation worsened symptoms due to disrupted routines and reduced access to care.
  • Many PwP lack access to personalized, evidence-based physical activity programs.
  • In-person rehabilitation is often infrequent, costly, and geographically limited.
  • Digital exercise solutions remain underdeveloped, underused, and inaccessible for many.
  • PwP face psychological and motivational barriers, including low self-efficacy and limited social support.
  • Healthcare professionals often lack training to deliver digital exercise interventions.
  • Most current online resources lack structure, personalization, and behavior-change strategies.

The Aims

MOVE ON UP aims to empower PwP by promoting physical activity through an innovative digital approach. Specifically, it seeks to:

  • Improve physical and cognitive function in PwP through an 8-week digital exercise program.
  • Train 100 healthcare professionals and caregivers via a 28-hour capacity-building program to deliver digital exercise interventions.
  • Build sustainable digital health solutions for long-term management of Parkinson’s disease.

The Innovative Features

  • Tailored programs based on the COM-B behavior change model (Capability, Opportunity, Motivation).
  • Message prompts that guide, motivate, and reinforce progress.
  • Accessible digital platform with on-demand sessions, interactive tools, and gamified features.
  • Social support integration through online forums and peer interaction.
  • Multilingual and inclusive design for wide European reach.
